About Us

Paha Ponies is an organization dedicated to preserving Spanish Mustangs on a ranch in the Black Hills of Wyoming. Adam Edwards, through his work with Paha Ponies, has played a significant role in safeguarding the legacy of 150 Spanish Mustangs from Bob Brislawn’s historic Cayuse Ranch. When the Cayuse Ranch herd faced dispersal, Edwards and his organization stepped in, taking in a substantial number of these horses to provide them with a safe haven.

Paha Ponies continues this important preservation effort by managing a herd, ensuring the survival of this unique bloodline through responsible breeding of each unique pedigree and thoughtful placement programs. His work helps to protect the lineage of these rare and historic horses for future generations and needs your help.

About Spanish Mustangs

The Spanish Mustang almost went extinct during the time of the Great Depression. They are a small and rugged horse, whose origins began with the arrival of the Conquistadors to Central America. Over the next 400 plus years their population grew and expanded to the Native tribes. They made the mounted Native Americans very effective fighters, unable to be caught by the horses of the Calvary Remount Program. Sadly, this little Indian pony went the way of the buffalo and nearly faced extinction. By the 30s they were incredibly hard to find thus inspiring the Brislawn family’s work to preserve the horse.
